The Edmonton Queen The Final Voyage
by Darrin Hagen
These stories are all true ... none of the names have been changed because there are no innocents, but occasionally the outfits I describe are nicer than what we were actually wearing ...
A riveting, rollicking ride into the glamorous woide-open heart of Edmonton's drag scene in the high '80s and early '90s. Gloria HOle, drag queen extraordinaire, tells the incredible story of her transformation into the star of this incomparable drag dynasty. Part memoir and part mythology, profoundly funny and at times achingly sad, The Edmonton Queen will take you on a ride you'll never forget.
As a play, The Edmonton Queenwas awarded an Elizabeth Sterling Haynes Award for Outstanding New Work in 1997. The book has been taught in gender studies and QueerLit programs across Canada. The epic fairy tale lives on in this special 10th Anniversary Edition.
DARRIN HAGEN is an award-winning writer, composer and actor, as well as Canada's most notorious drag performer. For nine years he was the co-host of Help!TV, seen nationally on Canadian Learning Television, and his next series, "Who's On Top?" debuted in Janueary 2003 on the Life Channel. He was the first Drag Artiste in Canada to host a national television series. In 2005, Hagen was named as one of 100 Edmontonians of the Century for the city's centennial anniversary celebrations. To the best of his knowledge, he's the only drag queen on that list.
